Your home's equipment, with its history intact

Your furnace, water heater or generator may outlast your phone, a service company's number and the contractor who installed it. ServiceTagPro is designed to keep a way back to help on the equipment itself, with a history that carries on through the changes you authorize.

ServiceTagPro is in development; this page describes how it is designed to work for you.

A ServiceTag is a small NFC tag on the equipment: no battery, no internet connection, nothing private stored on it, and read by the phone you already carry. New to NFC? Start here

Priya's furnace on a cold morning

An illustrative story. The people and companies in it are fictional.

  1. Something is wrong On a cold morning, Priya's furnace will not start. She has replaced her phone since the installation, the company's contact is missing and the last invoice is long gone.
  2. One scan The branded ServiceTag is still on the furnace. Priya scans it and opens the unit's service page in her browser, without installing an app.
  3. Help, without an account The page shows the company that services the furnace and a way to ask for help. Priya describes the problem, adds photos and confirms with a one-time code sent to the phone number the company has on record for her. She creates no account, and the company knows which unit it is, where it is and what has been done to it.
  4. Her history, when she wants it To see the furnace's details and service history, she taps “Get my history”. Her service company lets owners on record enroll themselves, so the sign-in link arrives in her email right away. Until then, the page shows nothing about her or her home.
  5. Her choice of company If Priya ever changes service companies, the furnace keeps its history. The new company is authorized, the old one no longer is, and the record stays with the equipment.

What you gain

No app needed

Any phone that scans the tag opens a web page for that exact piece of equipment. No app and no extra hardware are needed.

Help without an account

Ask your service company for help straight from the tag, confirmed with a code sent to your phone. Sign in only if you want the full history.

No more hunting for model numbers

The tag identifies the unit, so you do not have to.

History that stays with your home

Repairs and maintenance stay with the equipment, not in one contractor's files.

You decide who services it

Changing companies changes who is authorized, not the equipment's history.

Private by design

A scan alone never opens your private equipment history. You choose who may read the shared record, including an invited contractor when guest access becomes available.

When things change

Planned continuity: these examples describe the contact updates, authorized handovers and guest access we are building.

Why not just use a company sticker?

A ServiceTag can show the company's logo and phone number too. The difference is what happens when you scan it: the page gets its contact details from ServiceTag Cloud, rather than relying on the number printed years ago. Ask the installer to show you that first scan before they leave.

What if I lose my phone or the company changes its details?

The tag stays with the equipment, so you can scan it with another compatible phone and an internet connection. Your provider updates its published phone number, email or address in ServiceTag Cloud. The scan can show those current details without rewriting the tag; the printed label itself stays the same.

What if the company is sold or I choose another contractor?

We are building continuity so an approved handover can keep the existing tag useful and the equipment's history intact. You control who is authorized to see the shared record and add work. A new company name or owner does not automatically grant access to your private information.

What if my next contractor does not use ServiceTagPro?

A planned guest portal will let you sign in, choose the equipment and history to share, and invite the contractor by email. After verifying the invitation, they can review that history and record the service visit in an online browser form, without installing the app or signing up for a ServiceTagPro account.
