Report a problem from the equipment itself

When the heat stops or the water heater leaks, you should not have to explain which unit, which closet or which model. Where your landlord or property manager enables it, ServiceTagPro is designed to let you report the problem from the tag on the equipment itself, with no app and no account.

ServiceTagPro is in development; this page describes how it is designed to work for you.

A ServiceTag is a small NFC tag on the equipment: no battery, no internet connection, nothing private stored on it, and read by the phone you already carry. New to NFC? Start here

Jordan and the leaking water heater

An illustrative story. The people and companies in it are fictional.

  1. A puddle in the closet Jordan notices water under the water heater in their apartment's utility closet.
  2. One scan They scan the ServiceTag on the heater. A web page opens, and there is no app to install.
  3. Nothing to sign up for The page shows only “Unit 140” and a button to report a problem. Jordan describes the leak, adds a photo and confirms with a one-time code texted to the phone number the building has on record. No account, no password. The report reaches the property manager, tied to the exact unit.
  4. The label, and nothing else Jordan never sees the equipment's history, the owner's details or anything about other units. When Jordan moves out, there is no account to close, and the building's tags stop accepting Jordan's number.

What you gain

No app needed

Any phone that scans the tag opens a web page for that exact piece of equipment. No app and no extra hardware are needed.

No account, no password

Scan, describe the problem, confirm with a code sent to your phone. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to remember.

A copied link files nothing

Every report is confirmed with a code sent to a phone or email the building already has on record, so nobody can file one in your name from a photo or a forwarded link.

No guesswork

The tag tells the right people exactly which unit has the problem.

Show, don't describe

A photo of the problem travels with the report.

Your privacy, and theirs

The page shows only your unit's label. Owner, provider and equipment information stays private.

Set up by your building

Your landlord or manager decides whether to offer it. Where it is not offered, contact them as you usually would.

When things change

Planned continuity: these examples describe the contact updates, authorized handovers and guest access we are building.

What if I lose the maintenance number or the building changes contractors?

Where your building offers it, the tag gives you a place to start again. Your landlord or manager keeps the published contact route current in ServiceTag Cloud. Planned provider handovers are intended to keep that route useful through the change; tenants do not need to choose or authorize the contractor.

  • NFC tags

NFC privacy: what is actually on the tag?

Why the tag needs no battery or internet connection, how the phone powers it, and what another person can learn by scanning it.
